Changes coming for 2018 Plymouth Babe Ruth season
The Board of Directors for Plymouth Babe Ruth league is excited to share changes to the program for the 2018 season. We have worked hard to retrofit the program based on the changing landscape for all players. We've also listened to many suggestions regarding the best way to improve the program.
As some of you may know, two years ago the National Babe Ruth organization created a new rule allowing 16 year old players to play in Babe Ruth. Plymouth Babe Ruth implemented this last season in our Downie division only. We have decided, to implement this rule league wide next season.
In 2018, the league will be separated into two age-appropriate divisions: 13/14-year-old division and 15/16-year-old division. Plymouth Babe Ruth is open to all Plymouth kids at the respective ages and any child from a neighboring town that does not have a Babe Ruth program. The cost of the program for the 13 /14-year-old age group is $200 for the season. The cost of the program for the 15/16-year-old age group is $150 for the season. All players receive a full uniform including Hat, shirt, and new pants.
By separating into two distinctive age groups, the players will be competing against other players close to their own age. Another great feature is that we will be able to offer greater instruction to the 13/14 -year-old division. We will be offering weekly clinics with the help of high school coaches, high school players & Babe Ruth coaches. Additionally we are also working on securing collegiate coaches for these clinics. This is a big step in getting your child prepared for high school baseball.
In order to implement this change all 13 and 14 year olds will need to try out, with the 14 year olds being redrafted. Any 15 or 16 year olds who are new to PBR will also need to try out. Tryout dates are forth coming. It is our goal to keep those 15 & 16 year old players on the teams they are currently on. However this will depend on the number of 16 year olds who decide to return.
Due to the fact that 95% of the players who would be in the 13 and 14-year-old division will not have high school schedules to contend with, we will focus on as many night games as possible to minimize any conflicts with outside AAU programs.
The 15 and 16-year-old program, taking into consideration their high school schedules, will begin with one game per weekend beginning in May. At the conclusion of the high school season, the schedule will include additional weekend games and a game during the week.
Players in each age group will have the opportunity to participate in a midseason All-Star game against other players from our league or perhaps an exhibition against a team from a neighboring town. This has been an extremely well attended and successful event for our league for the past several years. Players will still have the opportunity to make and play for the district all star teams as well as summer league teams if they so desire. We will also continue to offer PBR AAU to our 13u and 14U if the interest is there.
We feel that the changes being implemented will allow us to continue to bring the best baseball product to your child to make him/her a better ballplayer. Real baseball, real instruction and real fun.
